Ten Useless Matters

بسم الله و الصلاة  السلام على رسول الله

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

There are many things that we do in our lives that had we pondered  a little about and reflected upon, we would realise that it is not only a useless and time-wasting matter but in terms of our Akhirah we are losing a lot. Our investment in the Akhirah is the most important one as it is our final abode and we would want to have the best of results bi idhni llah! Therefore, we must take care in doing what pleases Allah and avoid that which is useless and does not help in bringing one closer to Allah.

useless

Below are the 10 useless matter that we can all take benefit  from(insha’Allah):

  1. Knowledge that is not acted upon.
  2. A deed or action that has neither sincerity in it or done in the way of the Prophet (salla llahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) and how he taught us.
  3. Money that is hoarded – you neither enjoy during this life nor get any reward for it in the next life.
  4. Having a heart that is empty of love and longing of Allah and seeking its closeness to Allah.
  5. Having a body that does not obey and serve Allah.
  6. Loving Allah without following His orders or loving Allah without seeking His pleasure.
  7. Having time that is not spent in seeking forgiveness for your sins or taking advantage in doing good deeds.
  8. Having a mind that thinks about useless matters.
  9. Serving those who do not bring you closer to Allah and do not benefit you in your life.
  10. Hoping and fearing whoever is under the authority of Allah while he cannot bring any benefit or harm to you.

May Allah give us the tawfeeq to abstain from that which is futile, useless and deprived of Allah’s pleasure and guide us to that which will bring us happiness on the Day we meet Lord!

How To Master Taqwa

بسم الله و الصلاة  السلام على رسول الله

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

taqwaAl-Ahnaf Ibn Qays was asked, “How did you master Taqwa?” He said:

1. I knew my provision, no one but me takes it so my heart felt at ease;

2. I realise my deeds, no one can perform them but me, so I occupied myself and my time with my deeds;

3. I realise that Allah is always watchful over me, so I was ashamed to let Him see me committing a sin;

4. I realise that death is awaiting for me so I gathered the provision for that Journey.

A man told him, “So where do you eat from AlAhnaf?”

So he mentioned the Ayah …وَلِلَّهِ خَزَائِنُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ (Munafiqoon: 7) and said “Do you think Allah would provide a kafir sustenance and leave me out of it?”

May Allah grant us all the tawfeeq to master our Taqwa, Ameen.

Tips for students

Assalamu’alaykum

Exam period is round the corner for most people, we pray that you all pass with flying colours. Ameen

Today’s post might be of benefit to some, but it was mainly taken from an introduction given by a teacher/Ustadh regarding how a student should aim to seek knowledge of Fiqh. Some steps can be applied to studies in general.

study

Ten steps in seeking knowledge of Fiqh

(Outward actions/ manners)

  1. Repetition – (note: even donkeys learn via repetition), reviewing the key concepts. The conditions and integrals. You should know the definition ie: what is? “Matters are known by definition..”
  2. Take notes – (repetition whilst thinking – taking notes). Diagramming what you are studying helps visualizing the subject. Seek knowledge and review notes and take notes to benefit long term.
  3. Ask ask relevant questions to aid understanding. Learn how to ask questions.
  4. Do extra reading – reading the best of things and suitable/ selective reading.
  5. Prepare fro the class –before the lesson. Go to the class knowing the subject better than teacher. For every hour of lecture you should do 5 hours of preparation. Review after class as well – reflection.

(Inward actions/ manners)

  1. Having high intentions – benefiting from the knowledge to be able to aid others.
  2. Clear defined goals –what do you need to know?
  3. Ta3’dhim –venerate the signs of Allah = Taqwa. To have deep respect of knowledge. Scholars are inheritors of the Messengers so seek from them. Don’t disrespect the U3lama. Books of knowledge are vessels of guidance that give life to our souls and our lives.
  4. Adab (To have manners)
  5. Consistency – learn and review something everyday, always act upon knowledge.

8 Reasons Why You Should Study The Seerah…

بسم الله و الصلاة  السلام على رسول الله

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Here are some of the reasons:

1. Studying a concise history of Islam

Through the Seerah of the Prophet.

2. To develop the proper love of the Prophet

It is Ibaadah to love the Prophet more than ourselves and our parents. To love a person you need to know them more.

3. To follow the Prophet’s way

His Sunnah and his way of life.

4. Understanding the Qur’an

There are some ayaats that deal with events of the Prophet’s Seerah. Seerah gives us explanation of some of the suwar e.g. Surah Ahzaab.

5. His life illustrates the methodological stages of Islamic movements

The events that happened were not haphazard but divinely planned.

6. Studying Seerah is Ibaadah

When gathering to study the Seerah, it is a gathering of dhikr thus Ibaadah to Allah.

7. Developing a Muslim identity

To develop an Islamic identity two things are needed:

1)      A strong study of Islamic history – (including the prophets, companions etc to develop love for them)

2)      Be part of the global Ummah – (learn about our brothers and sisters around the world)

8. Studying the life of the Greatest

The prophet is the first among Michael Hart’s book on The 100 Greatest.

May Allah make us among those who study and implement the Seerah of our beloved in our daily lives, Ameen.

Signs of the Day of Judgement (6)

بسم الله و الصلاة  السلام على رسول الله

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

46. The opening of Constantinople

Narrated Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (PBUH) asked the Sahabahs, “Do you know about a city where half of it is in sea and half of it is in land?” The Sahabahs said, “Yes”, the Prophet said, The Day of Judgement would not occur until seventy thousand from the descendent of Ishaac will attack it, when they arrive there they will not fight with any weapon, they will say, “la ilaha illa llah wa llahu akbar” and the first half of it will fall down, and then they would say it another time “La ilaha illa llah wa llahu akbar”, and the second half would fall down, and then the third time they would say, “La ilaha illa llah wa llahu akbar”, they will open the whole town and they would enter it.” (Muslim)

 47. The reign of al-Qahtaani

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The Day of Judgement will not occur until a man from Qahtaan comes out and he would be pushing the people with his stick.” (Bukhari)

And in another Hadith narrated by Ibn Abbas where the Prophet (PBUH) was talking about al-Khalifa where he (PBUH) mentions, “…and a man from Qahtaan and all of them are righteous.”

– ‘…pushing the people with his stick.’ = means he is very righteous but he is strict and tough

 48. The war with the Jews

Narrated Abu Hurayrah, the Prophet (PBUH) said, “The Hour will not occur until the Muslims fight with the Jews. The Jews would hide behind rocks and trees and the rock or tree will tell the Muslim “Oh Muslim, oh servant of Allah, behind me is a Jew come and kill him”, with the exception of the Gharkad tree which will not say “…behind me is a Jew…” to the Muslim, because this tree is a tree of the Jews.” (Muslim)

 49. Al-Madinah expelling the evil

Narrated Abu Hurayrah, the Prophet (PBUH) said, “A time would come when a man would call his cousins and his relatives telling him “come to the luxurious life, come to the luxurious”, and Madinah is better for them if they knew. In the name of the one whom my soul is in his hands, anyone who leaves Madinah and gives it up Allah will replace in Madinah someone better than him. Al-Madinah is like a furnace that separates the impurities, it will expel all of its impurities.” (Bukhari)

 – This refers to people from Madinah who would go to other lands that are more luxurious and call their relatives to come out of Madinah to join them.

 50. A blessed wind taking the souls of the believers

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “Allah will send a wind from Yemen that is softer than silk, it will take the souls of everyone who has even a single grain of Iman in their hearts.” (Muslim)

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “The one who would transgress against the sanctity of
Al-Ka’bah are going to be its people, and when that will happen then don’t ask about the perishing of the Arabs, and then Abyssinians would come and they would destroy the Ka’bah and take out the treasures of Al-Ka’bah.”

 52. The coming of Al-Mahdi

The Prophet (PBUH) said, “I am giving you the good news of Al-Mahdi who will be sent in my Ummah in times of disputes, there will be a lot of catastrophes, Allah will send Al-Mahdi. He will replace the oppression and injustice of the world with justice. The dwellers of this earth would be pleased with him and the dwellers of the heavens would be pleased with him. He will distribute money equally to the people. He will fill the hearts of the Ummah of Muhammad (PBUH) with satisfaction and contentment. His justice will encompass all of them and he will announce to the Ummah “who needs money” and no one would respond except one man who will stand up and say “I”. Al-Mahdi will tell him to go to the treasurer and tell him that “Al-Mahdi is telling you to give me money”, so he goes to the treasurer and conveys the order of Al-Mahdi. He fills his clothes with money and when he sees all of the money and leaves he regrets it and says, “I was the most greedy of the Ummah of Muhammad (PBUH), how come I wasn’t content as they were?” He would go back and try to return the money; the treasurer would say “you cannot return it”. It will be like that for seven or eight or nine years and then there would be no good in living after that.” (Ahmad)
